Diving
The Hannah's Beach Coast offers some exceptional diving. South of Jackson Bay
and the Open Bay Islands & reef hold an abundance of cray fish. While the
rugged Coast line can have variable weather conditions on a fine day some of
New Zealand's best diving conditions can be experienced. Diving conditions
are suitable for more experienced divers.
Typical diving will include reef & rock diving with numerous caves, holes
and crevasses well stocked with crayfish, Blue cod, Tarakihi and other sea
life. It would be a disappointing West Coast dive if you were unable to catch
you quota of fish. It is also common to find yourself diving with inquisitive
seals & small reef sharks.
Dive Boats can be launched from a beach ramp alongside Jackson Bay Wharf (the
ramp is sheltered from most prevailing winds – NE being the exception).
Launching of boats larger than 5M is recommended an hour either side of high
tide to avoid shallow water in the bay at low tide.
